Revealed with Fire

By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. 1 Corinthians 3:10-15

Much of our journey around the States has been for the purpose of building.  Jesus building on what He started many years ago, in Andy, myself and our family.  Our foundation has been laid and He continues to add more and more as we seek His Kingdom.  Many times we have tried to take over and be the builders which has turned out to be harder and much less worthy.  As Andy and I have reflected on the past year we both (if we were to do it all over again) would be even more patient and take more time to pray and wait for HIS guidance.  We found ourselves making plans at many times without even asking the Lord what He thought.  And granted, He always used us, always came with us and never abandoned us.  However, because of our building skills, we probably missed out on some opportunities that God had planned for us.

This verse in 1 Corinthians has caused me to be more aware of my own ways of doing things versus God’s way of doing things.  I don’t want to get to the Big Day and find myself escaping the flames of the fire that burnt up all my work.  I want my work to survive the Fire that reveals and brings glory to it’s True Nature, Jesus.  That is what it all boils down to; does my life point to Jesus?  Am I letting Jesus work through me?

As a part of the Body of Christ, I must ask the rest of the Body; are you going to be escaping your flames or will you be able to stand and watch as the flames reveal Jesus?

As a follower of Christ, I represent Him to the rest of the world.  My work is with the Kingdom of God and for the Kingdom of God.  By God’s grace my foundation is being built and I am learning how to become an expert builder.  I know there are many more times that I will try and take the hammer from Jesus and totally bif it again.  Fortunately, Jesus is the Gracious Teacher.

Blessings on all of you who continue to allow the Lord to refine you with His Fire before the Day comes.

Burn, baby, burn!

  1. Yes, God… Burn away the crap and reveal those things that will stand the test of time and Heaven.
    Peace,
    Dad

  2. Good Stuff. This passage is so rich. You’ve hit on a key point that many miss.

“As Andy and I have reflected on the past year we both (if we were to do it all over again) would be even more patient and take more time to pray and wait for HIS guidance. We found ourselves making plans at many times without even asking the Lord what He thought”

God wants seeker followers, not “Presumer Performers”

Here’s the link and an excerpt:

Are You A Presumer – Performer?

Martha is the Biblical example of what I call a Presumer Performer. She was so busy doing stuff that she didn’t make time to sit at Jesus’ feet. She was so busy she stopped expending the effort necessary to be a seeker – follower.

Mary had it right. The first job of the believer is not to do. Our first Job is just to sit at the master’s feet and listen! If we jump in & help out wherever it looks like God needs us, our attitude contradicts scripture.

NLT Acts 17;24 “He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, 25 and human hands can’t serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need.

God never needed us! He gives us the opportunity to cooperate with, to seek, to find, and to follow him. He even promises to transform us as we grow in him. But God does not want us taking our best guess at his will and jumping in. He really wants to direct us. He want us carrying the yoke that has selected for us. We are told to seek him and to follow him, to carry our cross, to carry the burden that he places on our shoulders. This is our call! Take a look at these verses.

NLT Matt 11;28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

    Living by the Spirit’s Power

NLT Eph 5;15 So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. 18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts…

I pray that this blesses you and your ministry,
    Glenn
